Privacy policy

Jyotishala is published by Avadhesh Mishra ("we"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with and the choices you have.

What we collect

• Account: email address or mobile number, display name, language.
• Birth details you enter: name, date, time and place of birth for each profile you save. Needed to calculate charts and Panchang.
• Questions and readings: questions you ask and the readings we generate for you.
• Palm photo (only if you use palm reading): processed to produce your reading and then discarded. We do not keep the photo.
• Purchases: what you bought and when. Payments are handled by Apple, Google Play or Cashfree; we never receive your card number or UPI PIN. For Cashfree we pass your mobile number for the receipt and do not store it.
• Engagement: streak, points and quiz answers, and invite codes you used or shared.
• Alerts (only if you turn them on): your phone's notification token and which alerts you chose. Alerts are delivered by Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (and Apple's push service on iPhone); no birth details are sent with them.
• Voice questions (only if you use the mic): your phone's own speech recogniser turns speech into text; Jyotishala receives only the text you then send. Spoken answers are produced on your phone.
• Technical: basic server logs (time, request type, error codes) for security. We do not use advertising identifiers, do not show ads and do not track you across other apps or websites.

AI processing (third-party AI)

Readings, answers and palm analysis are written by an AI model from OpenAI. Before your first AI reading the app asks for your permission. When you agree, we send OpenAI: the calculated chart facts (planet signs and houses, periods, Panchang), the question you typed, and for palm reading the photo. We do not add your profile name, birth date, birth time or birthplace to AI requests. Any personal information you include in your question is sent with that question. Requests are made with storage switched off on OpenAI's side (store: false). OpenAI does not use API data to train its models and applies its API retention and abuse-monitoring policies. You can withdraw permission in Me → Privacy at any time; AI features then stop.

Why we use it

To provide the features you ask for (charts, readings, matching, reminders), to process purchases and keep your credits and Plus status correct, to keep the service secure, and to meet legal obligations such as tax records. We do not sell your data.

Who we share it with

• OpenAI, as described above.
• Apple, Google and Cashfree, for payments.
• Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, to deliver alerts you switched on.
• Google Maps, when you search for a birthplace: the text you type is sent through our server to find the place and its time zone.
• Our hosting provider, which stores data on our behalf.
• Authorities, only where the law requires.

How long we keep it

Account and birth profiles: until you delete them or your account. AI readings, including saved AI reports: up to 30 days, then removed automatically. Purchase records: kept as anonymous accounting records as required by tax law, even after account deletion. Server logs: only for a limited period, for security.

Your choices and rights

• View and download your data: Me → Export my data.
• Correct it: edit profiles and account details in the app.
• Delete it: Me → Delete account, or see account deletion.
• Withdraw AI consent: Me → Privacy.
• Grievances: write to Avadhesh Mishra at support@jyotishala.com. We reply within 30 days.

Children

Jyotishala is not meant for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), access is restricted, and payment details never reach our servers.

Changes

We will show a notice in the app before material changes take effect.
